The international community must step in.<\/p>\n<p>I have signed this EDM\ud83d\udc47\ud83c\udffc <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kgIPwqYFCK\">https:\/\/t.co\/kgIPwqYFCK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Olivia Blake MP (@_OliviaBlake) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_OliviaBlake\/status\/1362342415735152640?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 18, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blockquote%20class=twitter-tweetp%20lang=en%20dir=ltrMany%20of%20my%20constituents%20have%20been%20in%20touch%20in%20the%20last%20few%20days%20about%20the%20appalling%20scenes%20in%20the%20Palestinian%20village%20of%20Khirbet%20Hamsa%20al-Foqa,%20where%20peoples%20homes%20are%20being%20demolished.%20The%20international%20community%20must%20step%20in.%20brbrI%20have%20signed%20this%20EDM\ud83d\udc47\ud83c\udffc%20a%20href=https:\/\/t.co\/kgIPwqYFCKhttps:\/\/t.co\/kgIPwqYFCK\/a\/p\u2014%20Olivia%20Blake%20MP%20(@_OliviaBlake)%20a%20href=https:\/\/twitter.com\/_OliviaBlake\/status\/1362342415735152640?ref_src=twsrc%5EtfwFebruary%2018,%202021\/a\/blockquote%20script%20async%20src=https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js%20charset=utf-8\/script\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to the EDM, it is the largest incident of forced displacement in the West Bank for years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The motion stresses MPs alarm that equipment manufactured by British company JCB is being supplied to Israeli forces for the demolition of Palestinian structures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It calls on the government to ban all UK trade with illegal Israeli settlements and to take action to prevent equipment supplied by British companies such as JCB from operating in them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">When contacted for comment, Ms Blake said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cMany of my constituents have written to me over the last week about the appalling scenes in the Palestinian village of Khirbet Hamsa al-Foqa, where people\u2019s homes are being demolished.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI, along with many of my colleagues, have signed this Early Day Motion. For too long our government, and the international community, have looked the other way. It\u2019s time we step in to end these illegal and inhuman demolitions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While Israel claims villagers were living there illegally, The University of Sheffield\u2019s Palestine Society also strongly condemned Israel\u2019s actions, and drew attention to UK universities\u2019 institutional links with JCB.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A spokesperson said: \u201cThe demolitions contribute to the ongoing dispossession of the Palestinian people and is central in creating a coercive environment in their attempt to ethnically cleanse an indigenous peoples from their land.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt is enraging to see unethical and illegal actions committed by the state of Israel be met with total impunity and silence from the international community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe urge the British government to take action at last and put an end to decades of Israeli apartheid, and for UK universities to cut their ties with unethical companies.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheffield MPs have signed an Early Day Motion (EDM) to bring parliament\u2019s attention to Israel\u2019s destruction of an entire Palestinian village.
